KALAHARI PLAINS CAMP : WILDERNESS ADVENTURES - SITUATED : 20 km from Deception Valley in the Northern sector of Central Kalahari Game Reserve Game walks out of Kalahari Plains offers amongst the best walking anywhere in Botswana and the opportunity for natural history interpretation is endless. The Botswana Department of Wildlife and National Parks walking permit restricts walking to a 3km radius of camp – this includes two large remote pans which attract both wildlife and birds.
ACCOMODATION AT : KALAHARI PLAINS CAMP
20 – 24 Guests can be accommodated in canvass wrapped units raised off the ground :
- Being located in the desert, the canvas and roofs have been specially insulated to keep out most of the heat during the day and the cold during the night
- Family units comprise of 2 bedrooms
- each with an en-suite bathroom on a shared deck but each with its own entrance off the deck (basically two identical rooms with the children’s’ room being slightly smaller, in a mirror image, but with only one sleep-out deck)
- En-suite toilet with shower and twin hand basins
- Each raised unit includes a down stairs shaded veranda and an up-stairs roof top veranda - allowing good views over the pan and plains
- Ceiling fan in each unit
- Safe in each unit
- Sleep-out deck above each unit to enjoy the night skies on top of the main unit

ACTIVITIES :
- AM & PM game drives in open 4x4 vehicles.
- Day trips to the renowned Deception Valley, with a picnic brunch, can be requested.
- Bushman Walk, led by camp staff members who are descendants of the San Bushmen and enables an understanding of how the San Bushmen lived and survived in the harsh Kalahari desert. It also gives an insight in to the ancient San culture and their humble and gentle approach amongst the family units and with the environment
SUGGESTED DAILY ACTIVITY SCHEDULE :
Times are approximate and fluctuate according to seasonality.
- 05h00 Early morning wake-up call
- 05h30 Light breakfast (cereals, yogurt, muffins, fruit, juice, tea, coffee) in the main area
- 06h00 Depart on AM activity (game drives in open 4X4 vehicles or game or Bushman walk)
- 10h00 Return to camp for brunch (full English breakfast and/or lunch consisting of a lunch dish, a selection of salads and fruit)
- Leisure time in camp during the hot, quieter midday period.
- 15h30 Afternoon tea (choice of savoury or sweet) in the main area
- 16h00 Depart on PM game activity (game drives in open 4X4 vehicles/game walks dependant on heat)
- 18h30 Return to camp (as no driving permitted after dark in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve)
- 19h30 Dinner (3 course)
- Relaxing in the cool evening around the camp fire.

TAKE NOTE :
- As Kalahari Plains is in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, we adhere to all the Department of Wildlife and National Parks regulations including no off-road driving and night driving.
- Game walks are dependent on a walking qualified guide being in camp and cannot be guaranteed
- Guests are requested to keep water usage to a minimum in this desert environment.
- Solar panels and inverters provide electricity and hot water; a generator is used for emergencies.
- Charging facilities for batteries are provided in the main area along with international adaptor plugs for this purpose.
WILDLIFE :
This part of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve offers year round viewing of key desert-adapted wildlife: the summer, spectacular with huge concentrations of plains game followed by predators such as lion and cheetah. This is a premium desert experience throughout the year, with prime game viewing during the summer months. Over 220 bird species can be seen in the area, including regionally threatened species.
